Error Correction Code RTL is generated with asynchronous gates. It consumes no clock cycles for encoding/decoding and is ideally suitable for Static Memory in ASIC or FPGA . This can be useful for multi-bit error correction to overcome manufacturing defects. This can also correct some errors due to noise and electromagnetic disturbances during chip operation.

Error Control codes can be used for long and short range communication which are at higher speeds and prone to error injection. It is ideally suitable for channels where signal to noise ratio is lower than expected.

Reed Solomon Erasure Codes can be used as RAID to overcome disk drive failures, or other applications where the location of erasure is known though may not be able to tell what the original value of the symbol was before error injection. The Erasure code can retrieve the original value after computations on the code word received with ECC (redundant symbols).
